Iwasaki Kamisori
Iwasaki Kamisori
The Iwasaki family is about as skilled as you can get when it comes to making razors. Using only the finest carbon steel, this blade is handcrafted in every sense. Iwasaki razors have incredible edge retention, so they are sure to last a lifetime or two with proper care and are capable of taking an incredibly silky edge. The shape of the head makes it easier to shave with, and the unwrapped steel handle is comfortable and simple.
This blade is meant to be held in your right hand and functions best this way, but can easily be used by a lefty as well. Kamisori tends to be a very ergonomic type of razor to use, especially for shaving smaller areas like beard edges and underarms. The main difficulty comes with the single-bevel blade. One side is honed like a standard razor, while the opposite side is concave, at a zero angle. His means a standard angle can be used on the beveled side, but a narrower angle must be used on the backside.

KEY INFORMATION
- All razors are guaranteed shave-ready by our staff.
- For help using your razor, we suggest you take a Straight Razor Shaving Class at one of our stores or feel free to contact us for advice.
- This razor is made from high carbon steel, which is capable of amazing sharpness and great edge retention but requires a little extra care. Be sure to dry your razor well after every use, and oil with Blade Oil or store in a dry place.
- All straight razors must be stropped before use, to straighten burrs and polish the edge for the smoothest shave possible. Be sure to use a good quality strop and accurate technique.
- Honing/ Sharpening should be done on Japanese synthetic or natural whetstones. You can bring your blade into a Kent of Inglewood store to be honed, with the first time free on any blades purchased from us. Razor honing classes are also available at your nearest Kent of Inglewood location.
About Iwasaki-san - At Sanjo-Seisakujo in Nigata, Kosuke Iwasaki began the production of Kamisori, in addition to his work in metallurgical research, which was then passed to Shigeyoshi Iwasaki, and currently to Ryouichi Mizouchi. The Kamisori that they currently produce have a hagane(cutting edge) of Swedish high carbon steel. The finger rest on Iwasaki kamisori are all hand ground on the side of the wheel. Iwasaki is the benchmark for Japanese razors, and many smiths in the Sanjo region have at one time or another have been under the tutelage of Iwasaki-san in some form.
